LIFTING TALENT
As a diversified information, services and media company operating in over 40 countries, providing opportunities for the next generation is core to the health and future of the business. Below we have highlighted internal programming including internships, fellowships, mentorship and sponsorship opportunities.
CHANGE AGENT
“We take diversity and inclusion to another level because we are able to report on these things and have an honest conversation [with our readership]. That is how we learn; that is how we get an understanding of different cultures. That’s the whole purpose: being an agent of change.”
Kenneth Daney
Vice President of Human Resources
Hearst Newspapers, Texas
In 2021, the Hearst Talent Development team launched its first Hearst-wide DE&I initiative. The Hearst INCLUDE (Impact, Notice, Communicate, Leverage, Uncover, Disrupt, Empathize) program includes fundamental training that provides all employees a greater understanding of inclusion and the ability for people to become a Certified Change Agent through continuous learning. The Hearst INCLUDE Program teaches participants to advocate for an inclusive and equitable workplace and community. Since the initiative’s inception, more than 1,300 employees completed the six-workshop program, earning their Hearst Certified Change Agent status. The program will continue in 2023 in anticipation that hundreds more will earn the badge. In 2022, Change Agents were called upon to advocate and drive inclusive policies, partnerships and community outreach. They play an active role in the business by leading ERG’s, DE&I committees and hosting events that focus on creating an inclusive culture at Hearst.
